Re-sizing Passion

Standard

That’s precisely the thought oscillating in my mind….. thanks SG you always put right words to those millions of thoughts

Excitement about goals is often diminished by our fear of failure or the drudgery of work.

If you’re short on passion, it might be because your goals are too small or the fear is too big.

Do a job for a long time and achieve what you set out to achieve, and suddenly, the dream job becomes a trudge instead. The job hasn’t changed–your dreams have.

Mostly, though, it’s about our fear. Fear is the dream killer, the silent voice that pushes us to lose our passion in a vain attempt to seek safety.

While you can work hard to dream smaller dreams, I think it’s better to embrace the fear and find bigger goals instead.

One of the resolution I have this year is to read more. For lack of time and will I have fallen back on my reading habit, so I have decided to complete a book every two weeks, I would have loved to do a book per week but given my daily engagements that would be too stretched a goal. I will choose the books that span across business, geopolitics, fiction, fantasy, psychology, comics etc.

I am starting with “Understanding Comics”. This was on my list for long but was not able to get hold of it. UC explores the definition of comics, the historical development of the medium, its fundamental vocabulary, and various ways in which these elements have been used. It discusses theoretical work on comics (or sequential art) as an art form and a communications medium for non-storytelling purposes.

Personal Renewal

Standard

This is an absolute masterpiece of an article (Personal Renewal) and I urge you to read it carefully and think over each word written there. I am sure we’ve all faced / might face such a situation in life, the phase where we struggle for a much needed ‘self renewal’. John W. Gardner addresses this issue in the most thought provoking way possible. For the unknown, John Gardner was the quintessential American hero; a man who transformed America through ideas and action that improved the lives of millions and shook up American politics. He was the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare under President Lyndon Johnson. Below is an excerpt from the article

“Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that unique pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account.”

Personality (N) Included

a perfect example of personality and it’s significance to a brand. What make this presentation interesting is the way it resonates with its core theme of “personality and brands”. Now isn’t that the right way to capture the personality (of the book). Author is Rohit Bhargava who writes at the very popular Influential Marketing

Arranged Marriage

Standard

Bumped into this video on arranged marriage. Simple concept and well executed. We may still be divided in our views on arranged vs love vs live-in vs any other category that probably i am not aware of but the Indian value system is what makes the concept of arranged marriage quite strong, of course with all things there are anomalies as well.
